The Belonging Project: Storytelling for Housing Justice

The Belonging Project is a narrative-based media initiative by MFDI that explores the complex human stories behind homelessness in the United States. Through a scripted dramatic series rooted in real experiences, the project aims to shift public perception, deepen empathy, and spark community dialogue around the systemic causes of housing instability.  Set in a fictional American town, the narrative follows a diverse cast of characters—youth, veterans, families, and frontline workers—as they navigate housing insecurity, social services, and the search for dignity and belonging.  Developed in partnership with local government agencies,  advocates and service providers, the project blends research-informed storytelling with lived experience to highlight both challenges and resilience. Beyond the screen, The Belonging Project includes companion materials for education, advocacy, and public engagement.  MFDI leverages its global experience in social impact media to foster awareness and drive action around one of America’s most urgent social challenges.
